体重体組成計などの機能を備えた次世代スリッパを発表。

OMR0Nは12月10日、体重体組成計(体脂肪計)と歩数計を室内用スリッパに統合したオム□ソスキャンスリッパHSP-400を発売すると伝えた。
HSP-400
「従来の体重体組成計はすべて固定式であり、体脂肪を計るという明確な強い意志がなければ、ただの邪魔な置物と化していた。体重体組成計を購入することですでにダイエットに成功したような感覚に陥る勘違いも多く、購入からわずか1ヶ月後には埃をかぶっているという状況も頻繁にあるだろう。我々はこれらの危機的な問題を防ぐ必要があった」(オム□ソヘルスケア商品事業統括部肥満ソリューション課グループリーダ小田浩司氏)
そこで同社では毎日使用するであろうスリッパに目をつけた。スリッパに体重体組成計機能をつけることにより、特別に意識することなく体脂肪を管理することが可能になったという。「スリッパという履き物の可能性を我々は思いついた」と同氏は語る。
次世代スリッパであるHSP-400は、体重はもちろんのこと、BMI(ボディマス指数)や体脂肪率などを、簡単に計ることが出来る。歩数計も装備していることから、取得した情報を元にして、スリッパを履いている期間の消費カロリーも把握することが可能だ。
「HSP-400の両側面には金属端子があり、両足を揃えることで接触する。金属端子をあわせると、有機ELを使用した液晶画面に現在の体重などの様々な情報が表示される。また、情報はSDメモリカード内に定期的に保存され、付属のソフトウェアにて情報を取得することが出来る」(同氏)
付属のソフトウェアは同社独自で開発した。SDメモリカードの情報を追加することによって体重や体脂肪率の統計が確認出来る。消費カロリー測定の結果から簡単なアドバイスも表示する。例えば、1日の消費カロリーが一定基準を満たない場合、残りの必要な歩く距離を提示することも出来る。高機能なソフトウェアだが「ソフトウェア開発は比較的容易だった。どちらかといえばスリッパ側に巨額な費用がかかっている」と同氏は言う。
「HSP-400には専用の充電ステーションが付属してる。1日の終わりにスリッパを脱ぐ時、このステーションの上に置くことで充電が開始される。最低でも10時間は連続稼働する仕様を開発段階で決定していたことから、バッテリの問題が大きな課題となった。また、多様な機能を搭載することで発生するHSP-400の重量も問題だ」(同氏)
HSP-400は片足で1.2kg、両足で2.2kgの重量が足を上げる度にかかる。そこで同社は発想の転換を行った。「トレーニング器具の1つにアンクルウェイトという足首につける重りがあるが、HSP-400はフットウェイトとも言える。足に対して常に重さがかかっているため、歩くことによって簡易的なトレーニングにもなる」と同氏は説明する。オプションのバッテリパックをつけることによって重さの調節も可能だ。
「もちろん毎日使う物だからこそスリッパとしての履き心地も最高を目指した。金属部分以外はNASAで開発された低反発のVEF素材を採用している。発売価格は現在検討している段階であるが、決して安くはないだろう。だが、それだけの価値は十分もっていると自負している。次世代スリッパHSP-400が健康管理にもっとも役立つ機器になることを自ずと知るだろう」(同氏)
現在の所、HSP-400は1つのデザインのみだが、将来的には本革を使用したものやシルクを使ったバージョンも発売を予定している。生活防水への対応も検討している。HSP-400は両足からの測定となるため、胸部や腹部の脂肪は把握できない。次期バージョンでは体全体を測定出来るよう改善を考えている。そして同氏は「我々はスリッパの中に素晴らしい未来を見ている。今後のさらなる発展に期待してほしい」と締めくくった。
世界中で数々の健康管理器具が発売されているが、果たしてどの程度の人々が継続して使用しているのだろうかと常々疑問ではあった。「毎日たった3分でダイエット」などというキャッチコピーがあるが、大切なのは3分ではなく毎日の部分だ。毎日使うこととなるであろう次世代スリッパHSP-400の効果に期待する。
